Where is your program located?
Structure House is located on a beautiful 12-acre campus in Durham, North Carolina. We are just minutes away from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Find out more about the Structure House campus.
What types of problems/disorders do you treat?
Structure House is a residential weight loss program for adults. We treat people who are overweight or obese; whether you have 20 or 200 pounds to lose, our strategies for long-term weight control will help you achieve your goals. In addition to our Core Program, we also provide a specialized Diabetes Program for participants with Type II Diabetes. Our Post-Bariatric Surgery Program is appropriate for clients considering surgery or those who have already had gastric bypass surgery. In the spring of 2011, Structure House debuted the Bridge Program, designed to meet the needs of those adults who struggle with the dual problems of obesity and binge eating disorder or emotional overeating. The Bridge Program places equal emphasis on treating both issues, appreciating that true recovery from binge eating requires much more than weight loss, while recognizing that healthy weight management is desired for many individuals.
How much will treatment cost?
Treatment at Structure House is a highly personal experience, with associated costs depending upon factors such as length of stay, nature and acuity of issues being addressed in treatment, and participation in specialized programs (such as our Diabetes Program and/or Family Program). Our rates page provides general information about program costs, and our intake advisors will be happy to work with you to develop an accurate picture of what your specific treatment will cost. Please call us at 1.800.553.0052 to speak with an intake advisor.
Does your program accept insurance or provide financing options?
Structure House is a private pay facility, but portions of your stay at Structure House may be reimbursable by your insurance company. We will be happy to provide you with the information you need to help you and your insurer’s benefits advisor determine what reimbursement options are available to you. For more information, visit Affording Weight Loss.
Your stay may also be eligible for payment through your medical spending account or may be tax deductible. However, Structure House is not a Medicare Service Provider.
Are your staff members licensed?
Our experienced and dedicated treatment professionals are highly trained and widely published experts who hold a variety of degrees, licenses, and certifications.
To learn more about the skilled and compassionate professionals who make Structure House such a powerful and effective place, visit our staff page.
How long will I need to be in treatment?
For new participants, we recommend our four-week intensive Core Program. However, depending upon your specific needs, you may also be eligible to enroll in our one-, two-, or three-week programs. Once your four-week program is complete, should you desire to stay longer, we offer extended stay programs in durations of six months-one year. Please call us at 1.800.553.0052 to discuss your particular situation with an intake advisor.
Will I be required (or permitted) to take medication during treatment?
Your program will include individually selected meals, evaluative sessions with our professional staff, use of all facilities, medical and fitness testing, plus a schedule of more than 90 classes and activities per week.
All medication determinations are made on an individual basis, and will always involve your informed consent.
What types of therapies and programs do you use?
At Structure House, our “School for Change” model will provide you with the opportunity to experience more than 90 weekly classes, workshops, individual meetings and group outings, covering four key areas: Behavior, Nutrition, Exercise, and Physical Medicine.
The experienced and dedicated treatment professionals with whom you will work will include behavioral therapists, nutritional counselors, exercise specialists and medical experts.
This comprehensive effort is designed to support your efforts to discard negative habits and learn new behaviors for permanent lifestyle change.
What is a typical day at Structure House like?

We offer numerous fun, high energy group exercise classes and weekend excursions that will get your heart pumping no matter your current fitness level.
Will I be able to have visitors or make phone calls during my stay?
Absolutely! Each of our attractively furnished and private apartments include cable television, a telephone with voicemail and free wireless internet to help you stay connected with the outside world during your stay at Structure House.
If you wish to bring a loved one or companion to Structure House with you, they may stay in your apartment with you. The family support program allows them to attend classes with you and share meals with you in our dining room. In addition, we have a special “Pet Lovers” apartment building for those who want to bring their furry friends along for their stay.
Will my family be involved in my treatment?
We realize that family support is an essential component of any healthy lifestyle, and we look forward to helping you and your loved ones establish the family environment that will be most conducive to your continued health and happiness.
Do you offer an aftercare program?
We certainly do. Our 30 years of research and successful treatment have shown us that weight loss requires ongoing support. Therefore, we have created a support network that has been designed to help you keep in touch with Structure House. Support network services include phone sessions with your therapist, support groups at home that can be led by Structure House participants, personalized feedback to your food and exercise diary kept at home and then mailed to us, and discounted return visits. We built an exclusive graduate website for graduates of the program to connect with one another, gain access to videos and articles by the Structure House staff, gain support through our message boards, and lots more. Graduates also connect with one another through our Facebook and Twitter pages. We implemented online support groups in the summer of 2011, where graduates interact with one another through webcams and phone conferencing and a Structure House therapist.
How is your program different from other programs?
Structure House focuses primarily on a behavioral approach to weight loss. Our goal is to help you understand why you may be using food for non-nutritive purposes. Everyone knows that to lose weight you have to eat less and exercise more, and while proper nutrition and an exercise program are essential components of our plan, we feel that the key piece to unlocking the struggle with weight is behavior. We will teach you how to understand, learn about, and change your Relationship with Food® so that you recognize triggers and are equipped with alternatives to dealing with them instead of using food.
